Douglas High School’s varsity and junior varsity spirit line was in California Feb. 14-16 competing at the USA Nationals competition.
“We competed in Coed Varsity Show cheer advanced on Friday Feb 14 at the Anaheim Convention Center,” Douglas’ Spirit line coach Andrea Barallardos said. “We had a great performance. I was super proud. The top four teams made it to battle in the finals the next day. We placed fifth; 0.26 points away from the fourth place team. The team placing first was San Rafael High School from California”
The coach said her junior varsity squad competed in the Show Cheer Novice and placed seventh.
“We all went Saturday and watched finals supporting the 27 Arizona teams still in the finals,” Barallardos said. “It was a great experience for the kids. They gained confidence, got to see so many great schools perform, got tips from a California choreographer and met a lot of new friends. It was worth doing and I look forward to bringing them again. It also showed them that they can accomplish anything even though we have less resources than many other schools. They represented Douglas well with varsity in a top five finish.”
