Douglas High School honored its boys and girls track teams at a year end awards event held Wednesday, May 8 at the Douglas Aquatic Center.
Raelynn Salazar was named the Outstanding Senior for the Lady Bulldogs while for the Bulldogs, Kevin Acedo was the Outstanding Senior; Elian Villasenor received the All Field Award and Jorge Ochoa the All Track Award.
At the 4A state meet that was held in Mesa May 3-4, Acedo placed seventh in the state in the 110-meter high hurdles finishing with a time of 16.01 seconds.
Ochoa placed seventh in the 400-meters turning in a time of 50.86 seconds.
Villasenor competed in three events. He placed 13th in the triple jump with a mark of 39’4”. He placed 19th in the pole vault with a vault of 11’3” and in the long jump, he had a “no distance” said his coach Donna Savill.
For the Lady Bulldogs, Aliana Vega Gallego, finished sixth in the state in the discus with a throw of 98’9” and she was 12th in the shot put with a throw of 31’4.5”.
Douglas’ 4x400 relay team of Zenovia Orozco, Deirdra Victor, Nayeli Moreno, Deyanira Victor finished 14th with a time of 4:20.
Sara Perez competed in the pole vault but did not place.
“It was an eye-opening experience for many of the athletes who had never been to a state competition,” Coach Nicole Mariscal said. “Aliana had a great showing on Saturday coming in sixth overall. And the relay team hit a personal best time. We finished the season on a high note; I am so proud of their performances.”
