DHS wrestlers begin season

Douglas’ 152-pound wrestler Manuel Gonzales, makes a move on his Safford opponent in the Bulldogs season opener Nov. 27.

Douglas High School’s wrestling team kicked off its season Wednesday, Nov. 27 hosting Safford and Catalina in a dual match in the Douglas High School gym.

The Bulldogs lost to Safford 51-15, and beat Catalina 59-18.

Albert Ambriz, wrestling at 106-pounds, was 2-0 on the day winning both his matches by pin.

Pedro Andre De La Cruz, wrestled at 120 against Safford and 113 against Catalina. He was 2-0 on the day getting a win by decision against Safford and by forfeit against Catalina.’

Senior Sergio Zuniga, wrestling at 126-pounds, lost a 15-11 decision to Safford and won by fall over Catalina.

Hector Martinez, at 132, was pinned by Safford and won by fall over Catalina.

Damian Aguilar, wrestling at 138-pounds for Douglas, lost by fall to Safford. Aron Hernandez wrestled at 138 against Catalina and won by forfeit.

At 145-pounds, Manuel Dominguez lost by fall to Safford and won by technical fall over Catalina.

Manuel Gonzales, wrestling at 152, was pinned in both his matches with Safford, and Catalina.

At 160, Daniel Coronado was pinned by Safford and won by pin against Catalina.

Douglas forfeited its 170 match to Safford but then had Sebastian Bernal wrestle in this class against Catalina where he won by forfeit. Bernal wrestled at 182 against Safford and was pinned.

At 195, Daniel Bacaparra pinned his Catalina opponent and was pinned by Safford.

At 220, Abraham Meraz, was 0-2 on the day getting pinned in both his matches.

Adalberto Valencia, wrestling at 285, won by forfeit over Safford, and won by pin over Catalina.

The DHS wrestlers are on the road Wednesday, Dec. 4 taking on Cholla and Buena in a multiple.
