The Douglas Little League wrapped up its season in impressive fashion Friday night as Andres Ortiz of the major’s champion Scrappers hurled a no-hitter in a 12-0 win over the Black Knights.
The Scrappers end the season with a 10-2 record.
League officials are inviting players and their families to an end of season BBQ Saturday, June 22 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the swimming pool at the Eighth Street Park.
Trophies and players pictures will be presented to players and sponsors. There will also be free food and swimming.
League officials announced last week the all-star teams for the upcoming majors and minors’ tournaments have been selected.
Those players selected to the major’s all-stars were: Christopher Alvarado, Andrew Estrada,
Bryant Bojorquez, Ruben Lucero, Ignacio Mata, Andres Hoyos, Corazon Quijada, Diego Lopez,
Andy Algeria, Ivan Higuera, Andres Ortiz and Luis Wong.
Players selected to the minor’s all-stars are: Isidro Hoyos, Julio Galindo, Gustavo Hurtado,
Marcuz Peralta, Chris Escarcega, Abel Clinch, Rodrigo Lamadrid, Isidro Pedroza, Ian Pelayo,
Juan Almader, Emiliano Fimbres and Jaiden Arciniega.
Tournament play begins June 24 in Douglas for the minors and for the majors, the tournament will be held in Sierra Vista.
Maya Noriega was the grand prize winner of the Douglas Little League raffle that included a two night stay at the Hilton Garden Inn, two dugout seats to a Arizona Diamondbacks game vs. the Colorado Rockies which will include fireworks after the game, a parking pass to the game, dinner for two at the Old Spaghetti Factory and a $100 Chevron gift card.
Bill Ward won second prize which was four baseline reserve seating tickets.
