The Douglas Charger football and cheer organization has begun accepting registrations for the upcoming football season.

The registration dates are as follows:

May 18 (during Douglas Days) at the 10th Street Park from noon to 4 p.m.

June 1, 8 and July 13 at the Douglas Dairy Queen on Fifth Street from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

If you are not able to make these registrations please contact Ken Nelson to make other arrangements at (520) 220-1996.

The 2019 fees for first sibling are as follows: cheer, ages 5-14, is $125; flag, ages 5-7, is $155 and tackle, ages 7-14, is $185. These fees include the six U of A raffle tickets and their personalized game football jersey.

The fees this year for each additional sibling are as follows: cheer, $95; flag, $125 and tackle, $155.

The players age is determined by the age on July 31, 2017. County rules do not allow any child attending high school in the 2019/2020 school year to participate regardless of age and no child turning 15 after July 31.

Nelson states all football players will, once again, get to keep their game jerseys this year. He added the game jerseys in the flag division have a value of $25 and the tackle divisions have a value of $40 each.

All new players must bring a copy of their birth certificate in order to register. If you are a returning player the board will have your copy from the previous year. All football players must be present at time of registration for measurement. Cheerleaders do not have to be present to register.

The league will be preselling six raffle tickets for a pair of U of A 2019 football season tickets in a gift ice chest valued at approximately $900. The tickets are $5 each for a total of $30. The drawing for the raffle will be at the 15th St. Park on August 9, 2019 at 5:30 p.m. Winner does not have to be present to claim prize. Raffle tickets will only have to be purchased by first child of same family if registering more than one child. Raffle entries will be turned in at time of registration.

The ticket design allows for two perforated stubs. One will be filled out at the time of registration and the other is for the parent to keep after they have sold the ticket. The league will draw the winner from stubs provided at time of registration and it will be parents responsibility if they have winning ticket to match winning stub with the ones they sold. This allows every ticket purchased to be entered in the drawing without the hassle of trying to get individual sold stubs back to league.

Nelson added the City of Douglas Youth Activity Fund will have $50 payment vouchers available for those that qualify. These vouchers should be available sometime in June 2019. Information may be obtained from housing department located at city hall. The league will update news page and Facebook page Douglas Youth Football & Cheer once these vouchers are available. There is a limited amount available.

Douglas Youth Football & Cheer does have a limited number of scholarships available each year. Please contact league for additional information.

In order to register for the upcoming season all paperwork must be submitted at time of registration. The league will allow registration fees during May and June to be paid in two payments with first due at time of registration. In July all fees will be required in full at time of registration. Registrations from June not paid in full by July 22, 2019 risk losing spot on roster and all money previously paid to participate in the 2017 season. All players and cheerleaders are required to provide a physical dated 2019 prior to participating in any league practice. The last date to provide your child’s physical is July 22, 2019.

The football and cheer team registrations will be on a first come first serve basis and the team sizes this year are 18 for the flag division and 30 for each of the mighty mite, peewee and midget divisions. The cheerleading squads have a limit of 35 for all four divisions.

The 2019 season registration packet will be available for download from website by first registration date. Registration packets are also available at time of registration.

Practice will start July 22, 2019 and the season will run until November 9, 2019.
