The Douglas Lady Bulldogs played two games in two days last week winning one, and losing one.

On Thursday, March 5, the Lady Bulldogs were in Tucson where they thumped Tanque Verde 18-1 in five innings.

Alondra Lugo was the winning pitcher, fanning six, walking one and allowing just two hits in three innings in the circle. Janae Aleman threw two innings in relief and allowed one hit.

Lugo and Victoria Valenzuela each hit 3 for 3 against Tanque Verde, each hitting a double; Isabel Tanbabe was 2 for 2, Aleman 2 for 4; Estevannie Rojas was 1 for 3 hitting her first home run of the season, Aylin Hernandez 1 for 3, and Renee Urrea was 1 for 4.

On Friday, March 6, the Lady Bulldogs were in Vail where they were defeated 3-2 by the Empire Ravens.

Lugo took the loss this game giving up six hits while fanning three and walking one.

Lugo would hit 2 for 3 against Empire; Tanabe and Aleman each were 1 for 3 with Aleman belting a double. Rojas was 2 for 3, and Shainah Nerio was 1 for 2.

“Empire took it away from us this year,” Douglas’ coach Lorena Tapia said. “We jumped on them in the first inning with Janae’s double. Our bats fell asleep after that. We couldn't maintain the lead. Our outfield made some great plays not allowing Empire to score much. A couple of mental errors and timely hitting cost us the game.”

The Lady Bulldogs, 2-1, are at Flowing Wells this Friday for a 4 p.m. game.
