The Douglas Lady Bulldogs basketball team dropped its season opener on Tuesday, Nov. 26 falling to Safford 47-40 in Safford.

Douglas trailed 24-22 at the half.

Clarissa Jaramillo led Douglas in scoring with 12 points, Karolina Padilla, a freshman playing in her first varsity game, followed with 11. Nereyda Trevino followed with seven.

“We competed well, went on a dry spell shooting but overall impressed with this young team,” Douglas’ coach Clint Hill said after the loss. “We will continue to work. The girls want to improve.”

The Lady Bulldogs, 0-1, will host Nogales on Tuesday, Dec. 3 before taking part in the Benson Holiday Classic Dec. 5-7.

Douglas opens up tournament play Dec. 5 against Patagonia.
