Volleyball season ended last week for the Douglas Lady Bulldogs who closed out the season beating Palo Verde in three straight sets.
The win was the sixth straight for Douglas, 10-8 overall, 7-4 in conference, 6-4 in region who finished 33rd (out of 49 teams) in the 4A power rankings. The Lady Bulldogs wound up in third place in the Gila Region behind region champ Walden Grove, whose lone region loss was to Douglas and second place Amphi.
Set scores in the win over Palo Verde were 25-19, 25-9 and 31-29. It was also senior night for Douglas’ five departing seniors, Aylssa Linden, Madison Green, Dianey Grijalva, Deyanira Victor and Viridiana Roman.
Isabel Tanabe had four aces this match along with seven kills and 23 digs. Victoria Valenzuela had an ace and a dig, Linden recorded three aces, nine kills, and seven digs. Green had two aces, nine kills, 11 digs and a block; Grijalva, an ace, three digs and 22 assists; Victor, an ace, four kills, four digs, and three blocks; Roman had 19 digs.
“It was nice winning our last match of the season,” Douglas’ volleyball coach Carlos Chavez said. “Our team has really come together the last six matches of the season. I’m so proud of every single player on our team. Each one played a role on our team and it all came together. It was a nice farewell for our seniors. I would like to wish our seniors all the best in their future endeavors. I would like to thank the parents of all the girls on our program.”
