The Douglas Lady Bulldogs soccer team picked up two more wins last week, extending their winning streak to three straight victories.

On Thursday, Jan. 30, the Lady Bulldogs were in Tucson where they knocked off the Palo Verde Titans, 1-0. Two nights earlier, Douglas disposed of Rio Rico 4-0 at Douglas High School.

In the win over Palo Verde, Venezia Galindo’s goal in the 46th minute was all that the Lady Bulldogs needed in their win.

Douglas outshot Palo Verde, 12-1; Lady Bulldog goalie Andrea Amaya had just one save.

“The girls really struggled tonight against PV,” Coach Mario Romero said after the win. “We just made too many mistakes tonight.”

In the win over Rio Rico, Jenally Barco’s goals in 15th and 16th minute gave Douglas a 2-0 lead. Dae Dae Victor scored in the 21st minute, giving Douglas a 3-0 at the half.

Galindo had the lone goal in the second half.

Douglas outshot Rio Rico, 16-6, this match. Amaya recorded five saves at goalie.

“The girls stepped it up tonight, this game could have been a lot closer than what the final score shows,” Coach Romero said. “We just took advantage of their mistakes and capitalized off of them; really proud of these girls.”

The 4-A rankings that were updated Friday have the Lady Bulldogs 8-2 overall, 4-1 in conference, 3-1 in region play, ranked 14th in the state.

Douglas has home matches this week with CDO on Monday, Feb. 3, and Pueblo on Tuesday, Feb. 4. The Lady Bulldogs close out the regular season Thursday, Feb. 6 at Cienega. Prior to the start of Tuesday’s match with Pueblo, Douglas High School will honor its 10 departing seniors.
