A gallant second half comeback came up short as the Douglas Lady Bulldogs fell to Pueblo 55-48 Thursday night in the DHS gymnasium.

Douglas jumped out to a 6-2 lead, but then was outscored 17-4 as Pueblo took a 19-10 first quarter lead and had a 33-17 cushion at the half.

At halftime, Douglas’ coach Clint Hill honored his graduating seniors, Andrea Valenzuela, Nereyda Trevino, Paulina Campa, Alexia Robles, Trairy Felix, Cariela Miramontes, Paola Paredes, and Katlyn Hill.

When the second half resumed, the Lady Bulldogs outscored Pueblo 19-10 trailing 45-36, heading into the fourth.

In the final quarter, Douglas clawed within two, 50-48, with just under a minute remaining when Pueblo went on a 5-0 run to close out the game, coming away with the win and the season sweep.

Teran led Douglas in scoring with 16 points, Leomar Paredes followed with 14.

On Tuesday, Feb. 4 the Lady Bulldogs knocked off Walden Grove 50-26 in Sahuarita.

Douglas led 22-5 at the end of the first quarter and 30-13 at the half. The Lady Bulldogs outscored Walden Grove 20-13 the second half, completing the season sweep.

Trevino led all scorers with a game high 17 points, this game. Paredes followed with 11 and Karolina Padilla contributed 10.

Douglas, 8-9 overall, 5-6 in conference, 4-5 in Gila Region play, closes out its season with a road game Tuesday at league leading Palo Verde.
