The Douglas Lady Bulldogs volleyball team posted a 4-2 record and finished in the top four at the Second Annual Bulldog Volleyball Invitational that was held Saturday in the Douglas High School gym.
Six teams: Douglas, Bisbee, Tombstone, Nogales, Desert View and Valley Union, were in town competing in the tournament.
Nogales won the tournament for the second consecutive year beating Tombstone 25-17, 25-17 in the finals.
The tournament began with each team playing each other in a 15-minute running clock, rally scoring match. Based on their record at the end of round robin play, the teams would then be seeded for the tournament.
Nogales went 4-1 and landed the No.1 seed; Bisbee was seeded second with a 3-2 record; Desert View was seeded third, Douglas fourth, Valley Union fifth, and Tombstone sixth.
In the opening matches of the single elimination tournament Douglas eliminated Valley Union 25-10, 27-25 and Tombstone downed Desert View 25-15, 25-16.
In the semifinals Douglas fell to Nogales 25-10, 26-25 and Tombstone eliminated Bisbee 25-16, 25-19.
In Douglas’ pool play matches the Lady Bulldogs beat Nogales 21-17, lost to Bisbee 20-19, defeated Valley Union 21-18, fell to Desert View 21-20, and downed Tombstone 21-17.
Earlier in the week the Lady Bulldogs fell to Tombstone in three straight sets 25-18, 25-18 and 25-16.
The next night, Tuesday, Sept. 17, the Lady Bulldogs were in Tucson where they fell three sets to one.
The Lady Bulldogs, 2-3 overall, have a rough week ahead traveling to Casa Grande this Tuesday, hosting Flowing Wells on Wednesday and will then travel to Amphi on Thursday.
