Lady Bulldogs scrimmage Tombstone

Tairy Felix dribbles the ball upcourt in the Lady Bulldogs scrimmage with Tombstone last week. Douglas kicks off its basketball season this week at Safford.

Douglas’ basketball coach Clint Hill saw his team for this year in action for the first time this season when they hosted Tombstone last Thursday in a preseason scrimmage in the DHS gym.

Because it was a scrimmage, no score was kept.

The Lady Bulldogs kicked off their season this week. Monday’s season opener against Tanque Verde was cancelled and rescheduled for Jan. 10, 2020 and will be a varsity only game starting at 5:30 p.m. Douglas was at Safford on Tuesday before taking a few days off for the Thanksgiving Day holiday. Due to the cancelation this past week, the Lady Bulldogs opener will be on Tuesday, Dec. 3.

“I feel the girls played very well for their first outing as a team, but we have a long way to go,” Douglas’ coach Hill said. “We lost over 40 points average to graduation and other interests, but I feel we can build a competitive team with the group we are forming. Many of our athletes are dedicated to making themselves better players so that is a plus.”

The coach said he has a few returning players that saw varsity action last year, and some players new to our program that he is expecting to contribute to our overall success as a team.
