The Douglas Lady Bulldogs basketball team thumped the Catalina Lady Trojans 64-14 Monday, Dec. 16 in Tucson.

Junior, Clarissa Jaramillo and senior, Cariela Miramontes each scored 11 points to lead Douglas in scoring. Melanie Perez followed with seven and Nereyda Trevino and Karolina Padilla each contributed six.

Douglas jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, leading 17-4 at the end of the first quarter and 33-7 at the half.

The Lady Bulldogs enter Christmas break 4-2 overall, 1-1 in conference.

Douglas’ basketball coach Clint Hill said he’s pleased with how his team is playing right now and in fact, they have a better record at this point this year, than they did at this point last year.

The coach said his team, despite being so young, is really stepping up to the challenge and, as long as his players continue to listen to the coaches and execute the way they’re asked to, they should be okay.

Next up for the Lady Bulldogs is the Copper Cities Tournament in Globe Jan. 3-4. Douglas will play four games in two days beginning with Superior at 1:30 p.m. Jan. 3 followed by a 4 p.m. game that same afternoon against Combs High School.

Douglas returns to regular season play Jan. 7 at Empire.
