Six members of the Douglas Lady Bulldog track team were in Chandler last Friday competing in the Chandler Invitational.
The meet is a state qualifying meet and features teams from all over Arizona, New Mexico and Texas.
Douglas’ girl’s track coach Nicole Gomez Mariscal said this was a non-scoring meet and the girls were there mainly trying to improve their times for state.
Lucianna Barrios and Samantha Arellano both ran in the 100-meters and posted times of 14.53 and 14.17 seconds.
Arellano also ran in the 200 and turned in a time of 30.81 seconds.
Karla Loreto ran in both the 800 and 1600 and finished with a time of 2:37 in the 800 and a personal best time of 5:49 in the 1600.
Kiara Hernandez and Caitlyn Kramer competed in both the long jump and triple jump events. Neither Hernandez or Kramer made the qualifying marks in the long jump but in the triple jump Kramer recorded a jump of 26’, 6.5” while Hernandez jumped a 25’1”.
Jacinda Villa competed in both the shot put and discus events. Villa recorded a throw of 20-feet in the shot and 73’3” in the discus.
Coach Mariscal said overall it was a good experience for her girls but right now over half of her team is out with injuries so she was not anywhere near full strength Friday.
The DHS track teams are at Amphi today and will then compete Saturday at the Bisbee Invitational.
