Lady volleyball bounce back with 2 wins

After getting swept by Buena in the season opener Sept. 5, the Douglas Lady Bulldogs volleyball team bounced back with two impressive sweeps of their own last week beating Sahuarita on the road and Catalina at home by identical scores of 3-0.

On Tuesday, Sept. 10 the Lady Bulldogs knocked off Sahuarita by scores of 25-19, 25-16 and 25-16.

Isabel Tanabe had 21 digs this match, seven kills and four aces; Victoria Valenzuela had 22 digs and three assists; Uliani Del Rio recorded six assists, five kills, 12 digs and a block; Anika Peralta had 12 digs; Myrna Davilos, six assists, two kills and three digs; Aylssa Linden five digs; Madison Green 10 kills, three blocks and a dig and Deyanira Victor had two digs and two kills.

In the home opener with Catalina on Thursday, Sept. 12 the Lady Bulldogs showed some nerves giving up 22 points on service errors throughout the three sets. Still, Douglas was able to prevail however winning the match by scores of 25-21, 25-18, 25-17.

Stats from the match had Tanabe with six aces, six kills and 16 digs; Valenzuela 21 digs; Del Rio two aces, two kills, seven digs and an assist; Davilos one kill and 21 assists; Linden four aces and two digs; Green two aces, 12 kills and a block; Victor one ace, seven kills, three kills and four blocks; Dianey Grijalva three digs and Viridiana Roman one dig.

Douglas’ coach Carlos Chavez said it was good to see his team bounce back from the loss to Buena and pick up two wins this week.

The Lady Bulldogs, 2-1, were at Tombstone Tuesday, Sept. 17.

On Saturday, Sept. 21 Douglas will host Nogales, Bisbee, Valley Union, Desert View and Tombstone in the Second Annual Bulldog Volleyball Invitational. Play begins at 9 a.m. in the DHS gym and continues throughout the day.
